Greetings Sorors and Friends of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Welcome to the website of the Delta Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. We are a professional women’s organization who has consciously chosen this affiliation as a means of self-fulfillment through volunteer service. One of our signature programs is “The African American Academic Achievement Awards” where we honor high achieving outstanding high school seniors and join community organizations and our corporate partners in presenting scholarships to eligible students planning to attend college.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1908 at Howard University by African American women. Internationally, we represent more than 200,000 college-educated professional women in more than 920 chapters in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa. Members work to improve social and economic conditions throughout the world through volunteer service. Organizational goals include providing educational opportunity, equitable health care delivery, economic empowerment, service to the Black family, community partnerships, enhancement of the arts and technological advancement as well as cultivating and encouraging friendships among women.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Graduate Chapter, chartered in 1948, continues to foster the ideals of the international organization with a commitment to scholarship and community service. Signature projects in the Twins Cities include the African American Academic Awards Convocation that recognizes high school seniors for their academic achievements and provides an opportunity for community organizations to join together in honoring our youth. Each year, community organizations join the Delta Phi Omega Chapter and use this platform to present $40,000 to $75,000 in scholarships to high achieving youth. The Ivy Foundation, Inc., a 501c (3) organization founded in 2000 by members of the Delta Phi Omega Chapter, grew out of the desire of the Minneapolis-St. Paul’s Chapter to further the educational and charitable interests of its organization. Other local programs include an annual Blood Drive/Health Fair, monthly workshops for youth in partnership with the YMCA and Soul Touch Productions, and AKA Day at the Capitol.

.

Sincerely,

Lori Jackson
